Winter parking ban
Municipal Code §10.17.030. No parking on Town roads or rights-of-way so plows and ice control can run. Ticket and tow. Runs the full six months, snow or no snow.
Past the poles
Snow poles are not the line
Poles mark the plowed lane. The ordinance requires you to be off the roadway and out of the Town right-of-way, which often runs well past the poles into what looks like your frontage.
Not the Town
Private snow is on you
The Town plows Town roads. Driveways, private lanes, lots and walkways are the owner's, through a private contractor. Local contracts fill by October.
One encroachment
One driveway per lot
Residential lots are limited to a single encroachment because the right-of-way has to hold snow. Building or rebuilding a driveway needs a permit and a site plan.
Snow storage
This is the part that turns a routine driveway contract into a liability conversation.
Legal
Front yards, outside the right-of-way and outside any snow storage easement. Side yards. Anywhere an owner has given you permission to stack it.
Not legal
Into the street. Into the Town right-of-way. Onto a neighbour's parcel without permission. Blocking a hydrant, a meter, or somebody else's encroachment.

No. The Town of Truckee does not provide private snow removal. Town crews handle Town roads and rights-of-way only. Driveways, private lanes, parking lots and walkways are the property owner's responsibility, arranged through a private contractor. Book before the season — Truckee snow contracts are typically full by October.
November 1 through April 30, under Municipal Code Section 10.17.030. The ban exists so plows can run without weaving around parked vehicles, and it is enforced by ticket and tow. It applies for the full six months whether or not it has snowed yet.
No, and this is the mistake that gets people towed. Snow poles mark the edge of the plowed lane, not the edge of the Town right-of-way. Under Truckee's winter ordinances a vehicle has to be completely off the roadway and out of the Town right-of-way, which frequently extends well past the poles and onto what looks like your own frontage. If you are not sure where the line is on your parcel, call the Town before the first storm rather than after the tow.
On your own property, and not in the right-of-way. The Town's guidance to driveway contractors and owners is to store snow in front yards outside the right-of-way and outside snow storage easements, in side yards, or in areas where the owner has given permission. Pushing snow into the street, into the right-of-way, or onto a neighbor's parcel without permission is how a routine driveway contract turns into a liability conversation.
Because the Town needs the right-of-way to hold snow. Truckee limits residential lots to a single encroachment for exactly that reason. Constructing or reconstructing a residential driveway requires a driveway permit, submitted as a site plan showing all construction details — worth knowing before a grading plan assumes two curb cuts.
